Senior Partner/Consultant

Dr Paul Abba is a Senior Lecturer in Law at Sheffield University, United Kingdom and a Senior Legal Consultant on Energy, Natural Resources and Environmental Law and Policy in Nigeria, Africa and Developing Countries.  He obtained his PhD from the University of Exeter, UK under the Commonwealth Scholarship programme having graduated with a First Class Degree in Law in 2008 and a Distinction in his Masters’ Degree at the University of Dundee, UK in 2012 also under the Commonwealth Scholarship Programme.

Paul has extensive experience as a legal practitioner in Nigeria spanning over 10 years, having worked for a top commercial law firm in Nigeria and handled several civil and criminal cases at the High Courts, National Industrial Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. He has also been involved in the drafting and negotiation of various transactional deals involving multinational corporations in Nigeria’s power and energy sector. In addition to legal practice, Paul is also a Senior Research Consultant to the Constitution Review Committee of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and was primarily involved in the drafting of Constitutional Alteration Bills in 2011, 2014 and 2018.

Paul has provided consultation services to various multinational corporations operating in Nigeria in the area of energy and environmental policies, and labour and industrial issues and disputes. He is the co-author of an award-winning book on labour adjudication at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) which was personally endorsed by the immediate past President of the NICN, Hon. Justice Babatunde Adejumo. He has also written various articles and book chapters published in Nigeria, UK (Cambridge University Press) and Canada. 

Paul’s specialist area spans a wide range of legal and commercial sectors including oil and gas, energy and power, environmental and natural resources issues and labour and employment disputes.
